Certified Green.
If we do not measure what we do, how are we ever to improve? For this
reason, we have adopted leading industry standards as the yardsticks for
assessing our accomplishments with The Green Makeover Home.
The
Green Home Builders of the Triangle, a council formed
out of the Home Builders Associations of Durham, Orange, Chatham, and
Wake counties, certifies homes using the NAHB Green Building
Guidelines. This voluntary 3rd party verification program covers
all aspects of green building from site planning to water and
resource efficiency. Builders can register homes to receive various
levels of certification. The Green Makeover Home is expected to be
certified
GOLD
.
LEED
for Homes is a certification program developed by USGBC. Similar to
the GHBT program, LEED for Homes has 3rd party verification and takes
into account all areas of green building and sustainability.
We have scored The
Green Makeover Home using the LEED criteria and have determined
that we could meet LEED for Homes'
GOLD
level.
The
EPA’s Energy Star program is one of the most recognized brands when
it comes to appliances. But they also have a Energy Star For Homes
designation which certifies a higher level in energy efficiency. The
Green Makeover Home participated in this program. We
have received a HERS
rating of 50, which indicates that the house
will perform 50% better than a home built to today's normal code standards.
