Hope Valley Residence Claims Top Honors In National Association of Home
Builders "Green" Awards.
In 1984, the Cannova family settled into a comfortable, well-built home
in the desirable Hope Valley neighborhood of
Durham,
NC. For over two decades, the home served their needs well. All the while,
nobody ever considered that this house would someday emerge as one of the
leading examples of successful sustainable remodeling in America. Well, it
happened.
Now completed, The Green Makeover HomeTM is
receiving accolades as positive proof that older homes, built before America
understood the importance of environmental conservation, can be effectively
and economically remodeled - taking advantage of the latest construction
techniques and building technologies to create a home that is
environmentally efficient, safe, and responsible.
Already,
this special project is being recognized. In fact, in May, 2009, this home
was selected as a first place award winner in the National Association of Home Builders' competition for the
2009 Green Building Awards. (See our
news release.)
Bill Beasley, owner of Red-B Construction, the contractor who conceived
and created this project, is justifiably proud of their accomplishments. "There are over 125 million residential
homes
in America right now," observes Beasley. "Twenty-four percent of the total CO2 emissions into
our atmosphere results from the construction and operation of these homes. As these homes come due for remodeling and upgrading, homeowners and builders have the perfect
opportunity to improve our houses as well as our planet."
"We have created this web site," adds Beasley, "to share our excitement
and pride over this newly remodeled home. We have revealed our vision,
detailed our process, and introduced the many important Partners who help
make this remodeled home a reality. By sharing, we hope we can inspire
others to 'Live Better. Live Green.'"
